About Colin Taylor
I was born in the West Midlands and have lived in Dublin, Liverpool, Birmingham, Wales and India. I settled in Epsom in 1970 and now live in Stamford ward in Epsom & Ewell SW, the borough ward and county division that I have the honour of representing. I am married with two grown-up children and a grandson.
I am a Cambridge graduate, a Chartered Engineer, a retired Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers and an Honorary Life Member of the Steel Construction Institute. I am proud of the BSI Distinguished Service Certificate that marks my contributions to British, European and International standards for Steel Structures - and I remain involved with harmonising European Standards for Steelwork.
I am a Methodist local (lay) preacher, a Pensions Trustee and a member of Amnesty International, the Consumers Association, RSPB, Stamford Ward Residents’ Association, Epsom Common Association and CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England). As a Science and Engineering Ambassador with Surrey SATRO, I help with science and engineering weeks in local schools.
I have been a Borough Councillor since 1999 and a County Councillor since 2001. I am Chair of the Lib Dem group which is the main opposition group at County Hall, and Secretary of the Borough Council Lib Dem group, which is the main opposition group on the Borough Council.
I have been a School Governor since 1996 and currently serve as a governor of Epsom Primary School, Southfield Park Primary School and Stamford Green Primary School.
My hobby is sailing, which is how I prefer to spend my holidays.
